This webinar discusses two SJC projects being implemented in Philadelphia and Chicago, which provides arrestees with access to defense counsel at police stations. In both jurisdictions, defenders have worked with law enforcement to implement pilot projects that provide access to counsel in police precincts. Defenders are working to ensure that constitutional rights are protected from the earliest point of contact with the criminal justice system. Through this project, defenders hope to demonstrate the importance of access to counsel in the early stages of the criminal justice process and show the system-wide benefits of public defense reforms.
