New Guidance from SAMHSA on using Mental Health Block Grant funds to treat justice-involved individuals

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) recently sent a letter to state mental health commissioners on using federal Mental Health Block Grant (MHBG) funds to treat justice-involved individuals.  
The letter, which appears to expand the allowable uses for MHBG funds when it comes to justice-involved individuals, is attached.  After reviewing the changes and obtaining more information from SAMHSA, the Bazelon Center will circulate an analysis of how the new guidance may advance sites' efforts to reduce the number of people with mental illness in jail.
