Since their first formal articulation, time standards establishing expectations for timely justice in American courts have been elaborated and refined. After having adopted speedy trial standards for criminal cases in 1968, the American Bar Association adopted standards for other case types as well in 1976, amending them in 1984 and again in 1992. The Conference of State Court Administrators promulgated national time standards for cases in the state courts in 1983. Over three quarters of the states have now adopted their own case disposition targets.#CaseProcessing
