In a 2015 article in the University of Hawaii Law Review, the author discusses the lack of empirical evidence about the effectiveness of implicit bias training on reducing racially disparate outcomes in policing. There is some evidence that it is possible to reduce implicit bias in the short-term through training. However, the author points to only two published studies that tested longer-term reductions in implicit biases, and these produced mixed results. This is not to suggest implicit bias training is ineffective in reducing implicit bias in the long-run, but that more research is needed.
